Then came the nightmare part — quite literally. I started waking up with tiny red bites and itching. At first, I blamed mosquitoes. But one night, I switched on my phone torch at 2 AM and saw the truth: tiny brown bed bugs crawling near my pillow.
I didn’t even know Hyderabad had a bed bug problem until then. ????
Here’s what I learned (the hard way) — and what you can do to prevent them before it’s too late.
1. Don’t Bring Second-Hand Furniture Without Checking It
Those cheap beds and sofas from OLX or roadside shops? They can be bed bug hotels.
Always inspect every corner and joint before buying used furniture.
2. Keep Mattresses Clean & Sun-Dry Them
Hyderabad’s sun is powerful — use it!
Once a month, take your mattress and pillows outside for a few hours. Bed bugs hate heat and sunlight.
3. Wash and Heat-Dry Bedding Regularly
Bed bugs cling to fabrics. Wash sheets, blankets, and covers in hot water weekly and dry them completely.
4. Declutter Your Bedroom
The more clutter you have (clothes piles, books, boxes), the more hiding spots they get.
Minimalism isn’t just aesthetic — it’s pest prevention.
5. Inspect Your Travel Bags After Trips
If you travel or stay in hotels often, always check your luggage.
Bed bugs love to hitchhike from buses, trains, and hotels back to your cozy bed.
6. Seal Cracks and Gaps
Tiny cracks behind beds, electrical sockets, or wall panels are perfect hiding spots.
A bit of caulk can save you from weeks of itching later.
7. Vacuum Regularly
Vacuuming corners, carpets, and sofa cushions helps remove hidden eggs before they spread.
Don’t forget to empty the vacuum outside immediately.
8. Be Careful with Shared Laundry or Dry Cleaning
If you use a shared washing area in an apartment or PG, bed bugs might travel through laundry.
Use sealed laundry bags and avoid mixing clothes with others’.
9. Avoid DIY Sprays Too Early
Trust me, I wasted money on “bed bug killer” sprays that made them scatter deeper into cracks.
If the infestation has started, get a professional treatment before it worsens.
10. Call a Reliable Pest Control Service
When nothing worked, I finally called SIPC — a professional pest control service in Hyderabad.
Their team inspected my flat, did a chemical-safe treatment, and followed up after two weeks.
After that… peaceful sleep finally returned.
